Photographers have both rights and responsibilities regarding their work. Copyright law automatically grants photographers exclusive rights to their images from the moment they are created.. This includes the right to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works based on their photographs.

This copyright ownership grants the photographer the exclusive right to control how their images are used and distributed. Photographers must not create or distribute indecent, harmful, or illegal content, such as child pornography.  The concept of "fair use" allows for limited use of copyrighted material without permission for purposes like criticism, commentary, or news reporting, but this is a complex legal concept with specific guidelines. Photographers should include copyright notices on their images (e.g., watermarks, statements on websites, etc.). 

Even if legally permitted, photographers should be respectful of individuals' wishes and avoid causing undue distress or annoyance.
